HEARTY WELCOME to The Department of Chemistry NIT Warangal

Greeting of the Day!

I hope everyone is in good health and I pray to God to keep everyone safe.

On behalf of the Department, it is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the Department of Chemistry, NIT Warangal, an Institution of National Importance. I’m delighted to see as you become a fellow member of our academic family. Of course, due to pandemic COVID-19 we are unable to welcome you physically, but in the prevailing situation we will use our technology to meet and greet each other and exploit the technology to meet our academic requirements. I hope you will discover over the next two years, what I have discovered in my 12 years at NIT Warangal: that you have entered a lively, challenging, diverse, and warm community.

To your parents, here I want to tell them your wards are there in safe hands and we will provide our best so they will make a difference in the world.

To you the students of 2020, welcome! I’m here to say a few introductory words about the Institute, as one of the nation’s leading academic Institutions and about our Department that is known for its academic and research output.

Institute at glance:

National Institute of Technology, Warangal, formerly known as Regional Engineering College, was established in 1959. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for this institute on October 10, 1959, the first in the chain of 30 NITs (formerly known as RECs) in the country. The Institute is well known for its dedicated faculty, staff and the state-of-the art infrastructure conducive to a healthy academic environment. The Institute is constantly striving to achieve higher levels of technical excellence.Evolving a socially relevant and yet internationally acceptable curriculum, implementing innovative and effective teaching methodologies and focusing on the wholesome development of the students are our concerns.  The Institute currently has thirteen academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering, pure sciences and management, with nearly 100 laboratories organized in a unique pattern of functioning, Central Library with state-of-the-art facilities, Auditorium, Student Activity Centre, Mega Computer Centre, Indoor Games Complex, big stadium, Seminar Halls with required infrastructure, Dispensary with state of art of facilities, etc. Faculty of repute, brilliant student community, excellent technical and supporting staff and an effective administration have all contributed to the pre-eminent status of N.I.T., Warangal. The Institute offers eight undergraduate programmes (B.Tech.,) in engineering, twenty-nine post graduate programmes (M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA and MBA) in engineering, sciences and management and research programmes in engineering, sciences, humanities, physical education and management. The institute is well-known for its Research and Development, Industrial consultancy, Continuing education and Training programmes for teachers and industrial personnel.

NIT Warangal is a self-contained residential campus located in a beautiful wooded land of about 248 acres with nearly 3355 (UG : 2251 & PG : 1104) students apart from nearly 269 Ph.D., (150 Full Time and 119 Part time) Scholars.  It has 16 residential blocks including one mega & one ultra-mega hostel for boys, two hostels for girls and one hostel for foreign students.  It has five messes for boys, one mess exclusively for girls and one mega mess with present state of art facilities for boys, foreign students and girls.  It has nearly 320 teaching staff and 360 administrative and supporting staff apart from outsource personnel. It is a residential campus with all the basic facilities for both the students and staff to live on the campus. The placement service at the institute is one of the best of its kind in the country. Recent placement record at the institute is on par with the best IITs in the country. The institute ranked 19thamong all the technical institutes in the country by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020.

Department at glance:

The department of chemistry was established in the Year, 1959, as an integral part of the Regional Engineering College Warangal (RECW). Since its inception, the department is greeted as one of the most academically active departments in the Institute. The department housed 18 highly reputed faculty members, 60 research scholars and 101 M.Sc. students. Department offers chemistry course to all engineering branches and two years M.Sc. Chemistry with specialization in Organic and Analytical Chemistry. The department has been conducting cutting-edge research in contemporary topics of Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry. In the department, various state-of-the-art facilities such as 400 MHz NMR, HRMS, gas chromatography, HPLC, FTIR, UV-vis-NIR, fluorescence, electrochemical workstation, computational chemistry software, etc. are available. So far, department received several extramural research projects worth Rs ~11 crores. Recently department received FIST grants of worth 1.67 crores. As a part of continuing education and outreach activities, department organized several national and international Conferences, seminars and workshops. In addition, department is actively involved in science popularization among the school children via Inspire programme and society. So far, the department produced 130 Ph.D. students and published over 950 research articles in various well-reputed international and national journals. Most of the students are well placed in various companies and institutions with decent package.

Vision:

To uphold the international attribute of chemistry as central science and ensure that chemistry has the international scope in providing excellence in education while initiating research through an inspiring environment that ignites the young minds.

Mission:
