The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the oldest departments of the National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW). Established as one of the major departments of the Institute, since its inception in 1959, the Department of Electrical Engineering has been actively engaged in teaching and research in diverse fields of Electrical Engineering. With excellent faculty, the Department of Electrical Engineering offers Under Graduate (B.Tech) and Post Graduate (M.Tech.) in Power Electronics & Drives, Power Systems Engineering, Smart Electric Grid, PG Diploma courses and research (Ph.D) programmes. The Department has started new M.Tech. Smart Electric Grid from the new AY: 2020-21. The Department also started P.G Diploma in all M.Tech. specializations, self finance, Ph.D. (self finance) from AY: 2020-2021

The Department is strong with all faculty members holding PhD degrees and expertise in various fields. The broad areas of expertise include State Estimation and Real Time Control of Power Systems, Applications of ANN and Fuzzy Logic in Power Systems, Power System Deregulation, Power System Transients, Power Quality, EMTP applications in Power Systems, Relay Coordination, Application of Power Electronics to Power Quality Improvement and Industrial Drives, Hybrid Energy Storage Systems, DSP controlled Drives, Simulation of Power Electronic Converters and Drives Systems and Control of Special Machines

The Department has strong Industry interaction and has been involved in constantly handling various consultancy projects for various Industries and Government of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.  Department has an MOU with Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to carry out the collaborative projects.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO) for Under Graduate (B.Tech.) students:

PEO1: Design and develop innovative products and services in the field of electrical and electronics engineering and allied engineering disciplines.

PEO2: Apply the knowledge of electrical and electronics engineering to solve problems of social relevance pursue higher education and research.

PEO3: Work effectively as individuals and as team members in multidisciplinary projects.

PEO4: Engage in lifelong learning, career enhancement and adopt to changing professional and societal needs.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (PO) AND PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES:

PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
