The institute Data Centre is under Dr. Satish Maheshwaram Faculty-in/Charge, Internet & LAN and NKN. The complete network is handled with the help of out sourced onsite engineers.

The institute LAN has been designed with a Full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet backbone offering an aggregate bandwidth of 10 Gbps between different switches using single mode fiber. All the switches are linked through OFC.

The salient features of campus wide backbone network are as follows:

Three tier architecture – Core, distribution and access layer switches.
There is 1 Cisco 6509 core switch at Datacenter.

1. Layer 3 intelligence high performance and throughput capacity.

2. Fault tolerant Supervisory module (MSM) in core switch

3. Hot swappable redundant power supply in Core Switch

There is 1 Cisco 4507 core switch at Datacenter to handle the Dasa, 1K and 1.8K hostels.
Each department has been installed with 1 distribution switch which is connected with single mode fiber with 10 Gbps link.
All access layer switches are connected with multi-mode fiber with 1 Gbps link.
There are about total 323 switches, which mainly includes Cisco and Aruba switches.
All client PC’s are connected with UTP CAT-6 cables
For wireless connectivity 498 access points are installed which are managed through Aruba mobility controller 7200.
All switches are monitored through WhatsUp gold server.
All department are connected with different VLAN network

Network security is managed through 1 UTM firewall (FortiGate 1000 which are in High availability as Active-Passive mode) and 2 Aruba clear pass for Wi-Fi authentication (both connected in a HA) user authentication is linked with LDAP.

ISP

NITW has 3 Internet service providers i.e.

1 Gbps internet connectivity by NKN.
1 Gbps internet connectivity by BSNL.
1 Gbps internet connectivity by Railtel.

WiFi:

Currently Wi-Fi is available for both faculty and students in all departments, girls hostels and some outdoor locations.
All class rooms are deployed with access points to support hybrid mode of class and online exams as part of continuous evaluation.
All department and hostel are using Aruba Access point (indoor and outdoor).
Network expansion still continues and work is on for making the campus Wi-Fi by deploying more number of Access Points.
