INSTITUTE HEALTH CENTRE (IHC)
The Institute Heath Centre is located within the campus
TIMINGS:
- On Working Days : 9:30am to 1:00pm and 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
- On Saturday and Sunday : 9:30am to 11:30am.
NITW Health Centre is a full fledged unit with Three Full time regular medical officers, one contract part time doctor who are assisted by paramedical staff (Staff Nurse, ANM, OPD Assistant, Dresser, Lab Technician).
The Health Centre has attached pharmacy with the turn over of medicines of more than 50 lakhs per annum.
The students, employees and their dependents almost 11000 members are getting benefited with the daily OPD of around 150 and above.
FACILITIES:
The Health Centre is having well established pathological lab facilities where blood, urine tests are done. The other facilities are ECG, pulse oxymeter, nebulizer, oxygen support, o2 masks.
The laboratory is equipped with hematology analyzer, Biochemistry analyzer, urine analyzer, hot air oven ,R-8C laboratory centrifuge ,Blood mixer,binocular microscope. All the routine blood tests(Hemogram, LFT, RFT, lipid profile, thyroid profile) are done.

We have a Five bed facility for observation and emergency first aid of patients.
DENTAL CLINIC:
The Health Centre has a Dental chair where minor procedures are done such as scaling, filling and extraction of tooth.
Specialist Services:
The Health Centre has Four visiting Doctors in the department of
- Psychiatry on Friday from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.
- Dentist on Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
- General physician on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
- Homeopathy on Monday and Thursday from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
PHYSIOTHERAPY:
The physiotherapy unit is equipped with all the latest modalities. tens muscle stimulator machine, interferential therapy, Ultra sound therapy machine, hydro collator packs.

D-Trac and Mobilization Machine
We have Two physiotherapists from 11am to 6pm. The physiotherapy unit has all the electrotherapy modalities and exercise therapy for rehabilitation and chronic and acute pain management.
WASTE DISPOSAL:
We are also following the rules of Bio medical waste as per Ministry of Environment and Forests.
MEDICAL SCREENING:
During admission process, medical screening is being handled by Health Centre for all the students.
Various clinical activities and camps undertaken in 2019 are as Follows:
1. Medical service is provided at the hostel itself for first 3 months to make the stay of students comfortable and safe including Saturday, Sunday, festivals.
2. Induction lecture and psychology counseling for the students with interactive session.
3. Muddunur camp: Around 700 village patients are benefited with the camp in a village near Warangal, which is the village adopted by NITWarangal with free distribution of medicines.
4. Cardiology camp around 110 patients have undergone cardiology consultation and 2Decho is done for the patients who needed.

CORONA VIRUS
Corona viruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several corona viruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered corona virus causes corona virus disease COVID-19.
The symptoms are fever, cough, sorethroat, breathlessness, sneezing, myalgia, GI symptoms, weakness.
Basic preventive measures to be followed:
- Physical distancing of at least one meter (6 feet) between individuals to be followed at all times.
- Employees and Students entering the campus shall be thermally scanned for their body temperature. If the body temperature is normal, then nothing needs to be done. If the body temperature is higher than normal, then the Institute Health Centre must be informed, and the person scanned should be asked to visit the Health Centre, and their vehicle will also be disinfected.
- Use of face covers/masks to be mandatory.
- Don’t touch your face, mouth and nose as this might increases the risk of infection.
- Practice frequent hand washing (for at least 40-60 seconds) even when hands are not visibly dirty and use of alcohol based hand sanitizers (for at least 20 seconds).
- Respiratory etiquettes to be strictly followed. This involves strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing off used tissues properly.
- Self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest
- Spitting anywhere in the campus is strictly banned.
- All employees must carry their ID card to be shown when stopped and asked by the Security.
- Anyone coming to the campus from abroad or outside Warangal has to undergo a mandatory home quarantine for as per GOI norms after arrival on the campus.
- Putting sanitizing hand rub dispensers in prominent places around the workplace. Make sure these dispensers are regularly refilled.
- Making sure that all toilets are disinfected at least twice a day, and all common areas are disinfected periodically.
- Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention. People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus.
- Eat healthy foods to boost immunity.

Ambulance:Ambulance service is provided 24X7. Ambulance is equipped with O2 cylinder, nebulizer and first aid box with routine medicines, essential life saving drugs.

Various Activities in 2020 - 21
Prof. N.V.Ramana Rao, Director NITW has inaugurated the health centre with more medical facilities (Hematology analyzer, Biochemistry analyzer and physiotherapy equipments on 28th April 2021.

Physiotherapy:
The Physiotherapy unit is equiped with all the latest equipments. Prof.N.V.Ramana Rao, Director NITW has inaugurated the Health Centre Physiotheraphy unit with D-Trac and mobilization machine on 1.11.2021. D- Trac machine is to treat chronic back and neck pain with out any irritation to release the spasms and stiffness
Covid -19 vaccination
Covid -19 vaccination drive is arranged at NIT warangal. Faculty, staff and family dependents have utilized the opportunity and got vaccinated.
Tackling Covid-19 during the PANDEMIC
- Tele Consultation: Tele Consultation was done round the clock (24*7). Around 100 Covid-19 positive cases were treated by our Institute Health Centre doctors during the Covid-19 2nd wave .
- Testing: Covid testing has been arranged whenever required and also reached to the nearest Primary Health Center (Boda Gutta) for immediate testing/vaccination, wherever possible.
- Arranged quarantine at the Punnami Guest House employees who require isolation.
- For emergency Covid patient’s - beds have been arranged in hospitals whenever required.
- Monitoring of post Covid patients by physiotherapist is arranged to discuss the techniques that increase the lung capacity.
- In the process of Covid and during post Covid Rehabilitation, patients are being counselled regarding their condition, techniques to increase their lung capacity and mental wellbeing which improve their immunity and ability to fight the diseases.
- Health Centre has taken initiative for the post COVID recovering patients in the form of arranging OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR which can deliver 7 Litres of OXYGEN.
- Diet: Dietary advice was given to entire family members.
- Patients were encouraged to be STRONG ENOUGH. They were also counselled to take all the medicines in time and NOT PANIC by reading the WhatsApp forwarded messages and google search.
- Preventive measures were being given in R.O frequently.
- Regular medicines were given for one month in order to decrease the visit / exposure to the health Centre and even issuing emergency drugs for cold, cough, fever.
- The IHC staff are exposed to heavy load of positive cases and we continue to give the services at the best possible way.
- Medical Team with a Doctor and a paramedical staff were present at the 60th National Open Athletic Championship 2021 for Emergency services.
